Cameron Diaz Joins Quvenzhane Wallis and Jamie Foxx in 'Annie' Remake; Will Play Miss Hannigan

I'm not sure if anyone has been demanding an Annie remake, but producers Will Smith and Jay-Z are intent on bringing us one. Early Thursday, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Cameron Diaz had signed on to play Miss Hannigan. Diaz joins Beasts of the Southern Wild's Quvenzhane Wallis and White House Down's Jamie Foxx in the remake. Wallis is playing Annie, and Foxx is playing Benjamin Stacks, a modernized version of Daddy Warbucks.

Annie was originally a project that Smith bought so that his daughter, Willow Smith, could have a movie to star in. Kind of like how Smith created After Earth as a project for his son Jaden Smith to star in ... That worked out really well, didn't it? Willow seemingly had better business sense than her brother, as she opted out of the project. No offense to Willow, but replacing an actress best known for a song about whipping your hair around with one of the youngest-ever Oscar nominees isn't a bad swap.

Diaz joins the movie after Sandra Bullock turned down the role of Miss Hannigan, the character in charge of looking after the orphanage that Annie comes from. Will Gluck, who helmed Easy A and Friends With Benefits, is directing Annie. The movie does not yet have a release date.
