Kerry Washington to Host 'SNL'

Saturday Night Live has revealed who will host the fifth episode of the show's 39th season.

Kerry Washington (Nov. 2 with musical guest Eminem): While she's been making movies for years, Washington finally cracked the pop culture zeitgeist with her starring role in ABC's Scandal.

Washington's selection as host comes at an interesting moment, as SNL's Jay Pharoah and Kenan Thompson, the show's only two black castmembers, have spoken up over the lack of female African-American SNL castmembers. I also have to applaud SNL for its effort to bring in female hosts during Season 39. After last season saw an unusually low number of women hosts, SNL will have three of its first five episodes this season hosted by women.
