Boston Critics Name '12 Years a Slave' as 2013's Best Film

After getting shut out of the early round of award announcements, 12 Years a Slave finally took home a Best Picture award. On Sunday, the Boston Society of Film Critics announced its honorees for 2013, with the group naming 12 Years a Slave as Best Picture. The film also took home honors for Chiwetel Ejiofor as Best Actor and Steve McQueen as Best Director.

The Boston Critics also posthumously awarded James Gandolfini its Best Supporting Actor honor, celebrating the late actor's performance in Enough Said. There has been some buzz that Academy voters could also nominate Gandolfini, but I'm not sure how likely that is to happen. The acting categories are extremely crowded this year. Jared Leto's Dallas Buyers Club performance is the early favorite.
