Disney Gets Full Control Over Future 'Indiana Jones' Films

If there's ever going to be another Indiana Jones movie, Disney will be the only studio controlling the future of the famous adventurer. On Friday, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Disney and Paramount Pictures had reached an agreement over who controls Indiana Jones, with Disney taking "control over all future films." According to THR, Paramount will retain rights to the current four Indiana Jones movies.

Ever since Disney purchased Lucasfilm, there has been speculation over whether or not the studio would set a fifth Indiana Jones into production. Some rumors have even claimed that Harrison Ford's deal with Disney for Star Wars: Episode VII includes a new Indy movie.

If Disney does make a new Indiana Jones movie, it'll be interesting to see which direction the studio takes the franchise. After Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, it seemed as if Shia LaBeouf's character, the son of Indy, was being set up to inherit the franchise. I don't think LaBeouf wants anything to do with the Indiana Jones franchise anymore. Would they recast the character? If Disney wants to turn Indiana Jones into a franchise without an expiration date, they'll have to find a way to expand beyond just Ford playing Indy.
