Taylor Swift and a Bunch of Other People Got Grammy Nominations

Get ready to see Taylor Swift's "OHMIGOD, I'm so surprised!" face again. On Friday night, nominations for the 56th Annual Grammy Awards were announced, and Swift is up for Album of the Year. Overall, Jay Z leads this year's class of nominees, getting nine nominations. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell Williams and Justin Timberlake are right behind Jay Z with seven nominations a piece.

Everyone seems to be talking about Timberlake getting snubbed for Album of the Year. Let's be honest — the Grammys are weird. Probably weirder than the other major awards. The Oscars have a concrete span of time for when movies are eligible. The Grammys basically work on a "Well, people started noticing this album/artist/song this year" timeframe. For example, the Imagine Dragons album that Radioactive is on came out in September 2012. Radioactive itself was first released in the United States in April 2012. How is that song eligible for Record of the Year? This would be like Academy voters finally catching a movie on Netflix and deciding to nominate it for Best Picture.

CBS will broadcast the Grammys on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014.
