First 'Million Dollar Arm' Trailer and Poster Feature Jon Hamm Trying to Find Indian Baseball Players
Jon Hamm is used to playing characters who can charm just about anyone into buying a pack of Lucky Strikes or cheating on their spouse with him, but does he have the skills to turn a few Indian cricket players into major league pitchers? The first trailer and poster for Million Dollar Arm hit the Internet on Monday, giving us our first look at Hamm's foray into a Disney feel-good sports movie.
Million Dollar Arm is based on the true story of JB Bernstein, a sports exec who set up a TV show in India called The Million Dollar Arm. The goal of the show was to find Indian cricket players who could, with training, become major league pitchers. The show selected Rinku Singh and Dinesh Kumar Patel, both who were signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Hamm plays Bernstein (did you think he would play one of the Indian pitchers?) with Life of Pi star Suraj Sharma playing Singh and Madhur Mittal playing Patel. Lake Bell, Aasif Mandvi, Alan Arkin and Bill Paxton round out the cast. Craig Gillespie, best known for directing Lars and the Real Girl, helms the film.
Million Dollar Arm opens on May 16, 2014.
