STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Trailer to Premiere in Just 9 Regal Theaters

The first Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer is less than a week away. Regal Cinemas announced on Monday morning that the trailer for the upcoming Star Wars sequel will have its world premiere at nine Regal theaters on Friday. The trailer will run before every movie between Nov. 28 and Nov. 30.

No word from Disney or Lucasfilm if the Force Awakens trailer will also be available at other theaters or online. The fact that Regal lists a three-day window for its premiere makes me think that the rest of the world will get the trailer come Monday, Dec. 1.

This plan sucks.

I'm not just saying that because I'm nowhere near one of these theaters. A premiere plan like this creates a special class of fans. Just because you live near one of these theaters, you're now worthy to see the first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens? I hate this for the same reason I hate movie trailers and footage shown exclusively at San Diego Comic-Con. Any promotion that allows one group of fans to consider themselves better fans isn't fair.

The trailer for the first Star Wars movie in a decade — much less one starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher — should be available for every fan to see, no matter where they live.

Here's hoping the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens leaks online ahead of this premiere, just like the trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron did.
