First Trailer for Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar' Aims for the Stars

The first trailer for Christopher Nolan's Interstellar hit the Internet on Saturday. The movie is still a year away, so the trailer features little footage from the film itself. Instead, the Interstellar trailer highlights footage of mankind's greatest flight-based achievements — going faster than the speed of sound, the Gemini launch, the space shuttle — while Matthew McConaughey's voiceover ruminates on those accomplishment.

The best part of the trailer has to be McConaughey's closing lines, saying, "Perhaps we have just forgotten that we are still pioneers, that we have barely begun and that our greatest accomplishments cannot be behind us, that our destiny lies above us."

The official synopsis for Interstellar says the film "chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage." There may even be time travel and alternate dimensions involved.

Interstellar hits theaters on Nov. 7, 2014. In addition to McConaughey, the movie stars Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Ellen Burstyn, Michael Caine, Matt Damon, Casey Affleck, Topher Grace, John Lithgow, Wes Bentley and David Oyelowo.
