'Godzilla' Trailer Brings a Monster-Sized Level of Destruction

The first trailer for the Godzilla remake debuted today, and — WOW — it's pretty breathtaking.

If you didn't know you were watching a Godzilla trailer at first, you'd think David Straithairn and Aaron Taylor-Johnson were playing paratroopers about to make a HALO jump into a war zone. A regular war zone, that is. As the soldiers drop, you realized we're in a city that's been demolished. Then flashes of light illuminate the reptilian spikes of whatever is lurking in the smoke.

Godzilla.

Director Gareth Edwards might have a megahit on his hands with this one. If he can deliver a movie that lives up to the mood and tension of this trailer, Godzilla is going to blow everyone away. 

Godzilla opens on May 16, 2014. In addition to Taylor-Johnson and Straithairn, the movie stars Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe and Juliette Binoche.
