'Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa' Makes the Shortlist for the Oscar for Best Makeup

The Academy announced its shortlist of seven films for the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling on Saturday. The biggest surprise was that The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug didn't make the list. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was one of the Academy's three nominees in the Best Makeup and Hairstyling category last year.

Based on this shortlist of films, there's a chance that some pretty un-Oscar-y movies could score an Oscar nomination. The shortlist is American Hustle, Dallas Buyers Club, The Great Gatsby, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa and The Lone Ranger. Yes, The Lone Ranger could be an Oscar nominee.

Nominations for the 86th Academy Awards will be announced on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014.
