'ANT-MAN' UPDATES: Michael Pena May Join Film, Michael Douglas Signed on to Shake Things Up, 'Have Some Fun'

After months of little news about Marvel's Ant-Man, it seems like the floodgates are about to crack open. Marvel announced yesterday that Michael Douglas would be playing Hank Pym and Paul Rudd would be playing Scott Lang in director Edgar Wright's Ant-Man film, and on Tuesday, news broke that Michael Pena had been offered a part in the movie.

According to TheWrap, Marvel has denied offering Pena a role, but that's standard Marvel procedure until the studio is ready to make an official announcement. TheWrap also noted that "it’s not immediately clear which side Pena’s character will be on — or whether he’ll have any superpowers."

Douglas also talked about joining Ant-Man, speaking with Reuters about the role. The actor told the news organization that he had been "dying to do a Marvel picture for so long" and called Wright and Joe Cornish's script "really fun."

Touching on how a role in a Marvel superhero movie didn't quite fit with his career path, Douglas said, "Sometimes — like (when) they didn't see you for Liberace — you've got to shake them up a little bit and have some fun."

Douglas is a great addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Pena would be too. It's astonishing to see the level of talent Marvel has gathered for these movies. I bet on some level, the studio regrets killing off Jeff Bridges' character in the first Iron Man. How great would it be to still have Bridges popping up around the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
