STAR TREK 3 Set for July 2018; Roberto Orci Not Writing

It looks like Roberto Orci's script for Star Trek 3 may be why he's no longer directing the upcoming Star Trek sequel. Orci revealed on the TrekMovie.com message boards that his role on the follow-up to Star Trek Into Darkness has been reduced to just producing (via SuperHeroHype).

When asked what his participation on Star Trek 3 will be, Orci said, "I'm producing, [nothing] more or less." This follows Orci being removed from the director's chair and replaced by Justin Lin.

Orci had previously written and produced both the 2009 Star Trek reboot and Star Trek Into Darkness. Despite Orci telling TrekMovie.com that "the story we are talking about [for Star Trek 3] would be awesome," it sounds like Paramount really wanted to get away from his direction for the franchise.

The studio announced last week that the yet untitled sequel to Star Trek Into Darkness will open on July 8, 2016.
