New BOURNE Movie With Matt Damon Pushed Back to Late July 2016

Matt Damon is still coming back as Jason Bourne — he's just going to be two weeks later now. Universal shifted the upcoming Bourne reunion of Damon and director Paul Greengrass from July 15, 2016, to July 29 on Tuesday. The move takes advantage of Fox pulling its Planet of the Apes sequel from the July 29 date.

Universal didn't say why they made the date shift. Two weeks doesn't really buy a studio much extra time to complete a project. The Bourne sequel was originally up against Ice Age 5, but the two movies pull from very different audiences. DreamWorks Animation is going through a rough streak at the box office, so Universal shouldn't be worried about them anyways.

By jumping back two weeks, Bourne will follow the Power Rangers movie but not really have any direction competition that weekend.
