SPIDER-MAN Reboot Down to Five Actors; Drew Goddard Frontrunner to Direct
The candidates are: Nat Wolff, 20, who had his biggest role in The Fault in Our Stars and will next be seen in Paper Towns. Asa Butterfield, 18, who's probably the most famous of the five, starring in Hugo and Ender's Game. Tom Holland, 18, played one of the sons in The Impossible. Timothee Chalamet, 19 or 20, played Matthew McConaughey's son in Interstellar and was in the running to play Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse. Liam James, 18, played the lead in The Way, Way Back.
Marvel and Sony are sticking to their promise to go young with the new Spider-Man. When Garfield won the role for The Amazing Spider-Man in 2010, he was 27 — seven years older than the oldest of any of the actors being looked at for the Spider-Man reboot. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has said that Peter Parker will be a high school student in the new Spider-Man. Kind of hard to make that believable if you cast a 27-year-old actor.
The studios will reportedly make a decision over the next two to three weeks.
TheWrap also reported that Drew Goddard is still the frontrunner to direct Spider-Man. Goddard was previously attached to Sony's Sinister Six movie. That film was scrapped after Sony and Marvel reached a deal to introduce Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
