SUICIDE SQUAD Joker Jared Leto Pays Homage to THE KILLING JOKE in New Picture

How does an actor tasked to play the Joker follow in the footsteps of Heath Ledger's Oscar-winning take on the villain? If you're Jared Leto, you take a page from the iconic cover of Alan Moore's The Killing Joke.

Suicide Squad director David Ayer tweeted a photo of Leto holding a camera in a fashion very similar to how the Joker is drawn on the cover of that graphic novel. I noticed that the Nikon logo in Ayer's tweet was reversed — upon flipping the image of Leto, it turns out that this is actually the exact same pose as the Joker on that cover.

While Leto hasn't fully transformed into the Joker yet, he is rocking green hair in this picture.

Ayer used the hashtag #WhereIsJared for this tweet, answering fans' questions about why Leto wasn't featured in the Suicide Squad cast photo that the director tweeted on Wednesday.

Here's the who's-who for that picture. Back row: Ayer (director), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Jay Hernandez, Jai Courtney (Boomerang), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Adam BeachJim Parrack (Deathstroke), Ike Barinholtz (Hugo Strange). Front row: Will Smith (Deadshot), Karen Fukuhara (Plastique), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress).
