Matt Damon Goes to Mars in First Pics From Ridley Scott's THE MARTIAN

Matt Damon's time in space in Interstellar didn't go so well. From the looks of The Martian, Damon's luck isn't improving anytime soon. Entertainment Weekly and People debuted the first batch of pictures from the upcoming film from director Ridley Scott over the weekend.

The Martian is based on the recent book by Andy Weir about an astronaut who gets left on Mars after his squad thinks he's dead. The astronaut, who'll be played by Damon in the movie, has 28 days to figure out how to survive.

When it comes to Oscar bait, The Martian has all the pieces to be a player when awards season rolls around. In addition to Scott directing and Damon playing the lead character, the movie stars Jessica Chastain, Michael Pena, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Donald Glover, Kate Mara, Sean Bean, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Sebastian Stan.

The Martian opens on Nov. 25.
