The JACK REACHER Sequel Nearing a Director

There's a Jack Reacher sequel on the way — and it may have found its director. Deadline reported on Tuesday that Tom Cruise is on the verge of reuniting with the team behind The Last Samurai, with Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz in talks with Paramount and Skydance. If everything comes together, the duo will rework the script for Jack Reacher 2 and Zwick will direct the movie.

The first Jack Reacher was a disappointment at the domestic box office, grossing just $80.1 million in 2012. The film was a bigger success globally, adding $138.3 million to its lifetime total. That was enough for Paramount and Skydance greenlight a sequel. It was reported in December 2013 that the second Jack Reacher movie will be based on Lee Child's Never Look Back.

Christopher McQuarrie directed Jack Reacher but won't be back for the sequel. McQuarrie is still directing Cruise in Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation.
