LeBron James Inks Production Deal With Warner Bros. — Is SPACE JAM 2 on the Way?

Guys, a Space Jam sequel is probably, maybe happening. Hot on the heels of his much-talked-about performance in Trainwreck, LeBron James and Maverick Carter have inked a production deal with Warner Bros. to develop movies, TV shows and digital content under their SpringHill Entertainment banner.

"Connecting with my fans and telling meaningful stories have always been my passion. In everything I've done, from Nike commercials to Uninterrupted and Survivor's Remorse, it's always about connecting with people of all ages and providing unique content they can all enjoy," James said in a statement. "And I've always loved movies, which makes Warner Bros. the ultimate partner to help us continue to push the envelope. I can't wait to see what we come up with."

Based on rumors that Warner Bros. has been developing a sequel to Space Jam and the fact that some recently filed Space Jam trademarks were discovered, there's a good chance that what the studio and James will come up with is a sequel to Space Jam. That movie turns 20 next November, making it the perfect time for Warner Bros. to announce that James will follow in Michael Jordan's footsteps and help the Toon Squad take on a new galactic threat.

Even before earning praise for Trainwreck, James had been moving into the entertainment universe. SpringHill Entertainment already produces Becoming for Disney XD and Interrupted and Survivor's Remorse for Starz.

"LeBron James has one of the most powerful, well-known brands in the world and we are excited to be in business with him and his partner, Maverick Carter, and SpringHill Entertainment," Warner Bros. Chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara said in a statement. "The combination of LeBron's global media presence and Warner Bros.' unmatched production and distribution expertise is a big win for fans everywhere. We're excited to welcome LeBron and Maverick to the Warner Bros. family and look forward to partnering on incredible projects that will connect with consumers across a variety of platforms."

Someone tell R. Kelly he should start writing some lyrics for the next version of "I Believe I Can Fly." A new generation of Space Jam fans will need that song ready for their elementary school moving-up ceremony.
