Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy Star in the First Trailer for Alejandro G. Inarritu's THE REVENANT

Leonardo DiCaprio's quest for an Oscar continues with The Revenant. The next film from Birdman director Alejandro G. Inarritu got its first trailer on Friday, revealing DiCaprio's descent into the untamed wilderness.



In The Revenant, DiCaprio plays Hugh Glass, an explorer who's betrayed and abandoned by his fellow explorers. Glass must then survive the cold while trying to avenge his betrayal. Tom Hardy plays John Fitzgerald, one of Glass' comrades who turn on him.

The look of the first trailer for The Revenant is pure Inarritu. The Oscar-winning director is bringing some of his Birdman flair to the wild. Could this be the movie that finally scores DiCaprio an Oscar?

The Revenant opens on Dec. 25.
