REPORT: Channing Tatum Bails on GAMBIT

Fox's X-Men cinematic universe may have just suffered a huge blow. Channing Tatum is on the verge of bailing on the Gambit movie, according to TheWrap.

One individual close to the project told TheWrap that Tatum’s reps are still in active discussions with the studio but acknowledged that “something is up.” The situation will have to be resolved quickly, as “Gambit” is slated for release on Oct. 7, 2016.

Gambit has been a passion project of Tatum's for years, with the actor having talks with Fox back in April 2014 about taking on the role. Tatum officially scored the role a month later. Fox hired a director for Gambit last month, selecting Rise of the Planet of the Apes' Rupert Wyatt to helm the superhero flick.

Tatum appeared with the rest of Fox's superhero actors at Comic-Con earlier this month, taking the stage and posing for pictures with the casts of X-Men: Apocalypse, Fantastic Four and Deadpool. All signs pointed to the movie heading forward with Tatum playing a role in the studio's expanding shared universe.

Can Fox and Tatum work this out? If not, will the studio quickly move to replace the actor in order to hit Gambit's Oct. 7, 2016, release date?
