Has COMMUNITY Been Canceled?

If there was a prophecy that Community would get six seasons and a movie, that first part has been fulfilled. But will Community keep going? After six seasons between NBC and Yahoo Screen, Joel McHale revealed in a chat with Metro Weekly, that Community's run is over. The actor was asked if Community would be getting another season on Yahoo Screen, and McHale made it sound pretty certain that the show's run had come to an end.

"No. They wanted to. But all of our contracts were up after six years," McHale told the publication. "All the actors on the show, almost without exception — their stock has risen significantly and it's out of the pay rate that is affordable to make the show. So you're not going to be able to get Alison Brie or Gillian Jacobs at a normal television salary anymore. There is just not enough money to be able to pay for the show."

Yahoo, however, isn't ready to declare Community dead just yet. After McHale's interview hit the Internet, Yahoo issued a statement of their own, saying: "We've seen tremendous value in our partnership with Sony and are continuing to discuss future opportunities for Community.

To complicate matters further, McHale appeared to backtrack on his Metro Weekly remarks on Twitter.

So what is it? Is Community canceled or is there a chance the show will return for another season on Yahoo Screen? According to Deadline, the movie that the #SixSeasonsandaMovie hashtag foretold could be what's next for Community. The site reports that Yahoo could have plans to release a Community movie directly through its own Yahoo Screen service, skipping a theatrical release much like Netflix is doing with its own movies now.
