WAR OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Adds New Lead Actor

When the next Planet of the Apes movie hits theaters in 2017, it — like its predecessor — will have a new set of lead actors. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gabriel Chavarria will be one of those actors in War of the Planet of the Apes.

Unlike casting James Franco in Rise of the Planet of the Apes or Jason Clarke in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Chavarria isn't anything close to a household name at the moment. The actor is set to appear in Low Riders for Universal Pictures and has a role Hulu's East Los High. All THR says about Chavarria's potential role is that it's a key one.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves is returning to helm War of the Planet of the Apes (which I still think should be called War for the Planet of the Apes, but the title is close enough to the one I predicted when Dawn came out). No word yet whether any of the previous films' cast will be back for this one.

War of the Planet of the Apes opens on July 14, 2017.
