'Argo' Continues Assault on Conventional Oscar Wisdom With Screen Actors Guild Honors

Yesterday, Popculturology discussed Argo's Producers Guild Award for Best Picture win and how Ben Affleck's film was on a path to become only the fourth ever to win the Oscar for Best Picture without having an accompanying Best Director nomination. On Sunday evening, the Screen Actors Guild gave Argo its highest award, honoring the film for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

While the SAG Awards don't have quite the same record with the Oscars as the Producers Guild Awards do, Argo's win on Sunday night is still significant. There's a very good chance that Argo will win Best Picture at the Oscars in less than a month, and we'll get to see Affleck on that stage despite his Best Director snub.
