Christina Applegate Flees NBC's Attempt to Reboot 'Up All Night' as a Multi-Camera Sitcom

Well, so much for NBC's plans to convert Up All Night to a multi-camera sitcom shot in front of a live audience. Christina Applegate has announced that she's leaving the comedy, according to a Deadline report.
“It’s been a great experience working on Up All Night, but the show has taken a different creative direction and I decided it was best for me to move on to other endeavors,” Applegate said. “Working with Lorne Michaels has been a dream come true and I am grateful he brought me into his TV family. I will miss the cast, producers and crew, and wish them the best always.”
Deadline also reports that Lisa Kudrow might step in to replace Applegate. No word how exactly Kudlow or any other actress would join the show's cast, though. Would NBC recast the Reagan Brinkley role? Based on the marriage Up All Night portrays, I'd have a very hard time believing that Applegate's character would leave Will Arnett's character. Would they kill off Reagan? That move only kind of worked for 8 Simple Rules, and that move was forced by the real-life death of John Ritter.

I hope NBC does the right thing and just ends Up All Night. If they want a multi-camera comedy, then start one from scratch. Don't trap stars like Applegate and Arnett in this mess.
