'The Spectacular Now' Director James Ponsoldt Chosen to Helm Hillary Clinton Biopic 'Rodham'
It's been a few months since we last heard about Rodham, the Black List script by Young Il Kim that hoped to bring the story of Hillary Clinton's college years to the big screen. On Monday, though, the project took a huge step forward, with TheWrap reporting that Rodham had found its director. James Ponsoldt, whose The Spectacular Now received rave reviews at Sundance, is the Rodham producers' pick to direct. Interestingly, TheWrap also notes that Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen, two producers behind The Twilight Saga, are producing Rodham. Not sure how that bodes for a film with Oscar aspirations.
When Rodham was named to the latest Black List back in January, Popculturology offered its five suggestions for who should play Clinton. Our list of Jennifer Lawrence, Rooney Mara, Emma Watson, Carey Mulligan and Emily Blunt was actually spotted by Kim, with the screenwriter tweeting the article and calling the list "great choices." TheWrap notes that "producers plan to attach an actress to the project before shopping it to studios and independent financiers," so the big news on who will play Clinton should be the next thing we hear when it comes to Rodham.
While we're still pretty confident about our suggestions for who should play Clinton, it should be noted that Ponsoldt worked with Shailene Woodley on The Spectacular Now, with the actress also receiving fantastic reviews. Could Woodley reteam with Ponsoldt to play a future first lady?
