'Fantastic Four' Reboot Jumps Into Summer 2015 While 'Independence Day' Sequel Bails to 2016
The 2015 shuffle continues. With Disney finally announcing that Star Wars: Episode VII would open in December 2015, other studios are now taking advantage of the hole that had previously been assumed to belong to the Star Wars sequel.
On Tuesday, Fox shifted its Fantastic Four reboot from March 6, 2015, to June 19, 2015. The movie, which will have no connections to the previous two Fantastic Four movies, will be directed by Chronicle's Josh Trank. No stars have been announced yet, but previous reports strongly link Trank's Chronicle star Michael B. Jordan to the role of Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch.
Fox also shifted one of its other big movies out of 2015, moving the Independence Day sequel from July 3, 2015 — where it would have had to compete with the Terminator reboot — to July 1, 2015. Yes, we're going to have to wait for another year to see if you can use an iPhone to upload a virus to those pesky alien invaders or if they've finally installed the proper version of Norton Antivirus.
