Jaimie Alexander as Wonder Woman? 'Thor' Star Has Talked With Warner Bros. About 'Batman vs. Superman'

One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's few female heroes heads back to the big screen this week as Jaimie Alexander's Sif returns with Thor: The Dark World. Beyond Sif and Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, there really aren't many women in superhero movies. Sure, Iron Man has Pepper Potts and Thor also has Jane Foster, but they're usually damsels in distress.

Of course, Marvel is still doing better than Warner Bros., who currently has zero female superheroes on the big screen, which is shocking considering they have the biggest female superhero of all, Wonder Woman. (Then again, Warner Bros. technically only has one superhero on the big screen at all right now.)

There's a chance all of this is on a collision course. Over the weekend, Forbes reported that Alexander "has had discussions with 'both companies,' about superhero movies — 'both' meaning Marvel and Warner Bros, of course," and that because of those discussions "kind of knows the story line for [Batman vs. Superman]."

Hmmm, what could Alexander and Warner Bros. be chatting about when it comes to Batman vs. Superman? Could it be a coincidence that back in October, Warner Bros. President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production Greg Silverman started talking about the possibility of Wonder Woman being in that movie?

Forbes later talked with Alexander about Wonder Woman. Here's what the actress had to say:

“I’m a huge fan of Wonder Woman. I really think if this is the closest that we’re ever going to get to Wonder Woman, then I’m proud to play Sif. I hope that other comic book entities can learn a lesson from Marvel in how to execute a female character the way it should be done.” Alexander also noted the lack of many female role models in entertainment, especially within the comic book film genre. However, she cautions that it shouldn’t be done too quickly or haphazardly. “I really would like to one day see a Wonder Woman film or Wonder Woman character, but until it’s done with class, I’d rather it not be done.”

It's interesting to see that Marvel has two of the top names rumored to play Wonder Woman working for them in minor roles right now, with Cobie Smulders joining Alexander in that group. Back when The Avengers director Joss Whedon was developing a Wonder Woman film for Warner Bros., Smulders was his top pick. If Warner Bros. is willing to steal a star away from its rival, could Smulders too still be in the running?

I do have my worries about Wonder Woman getting crammed into Batman vs. Superman. Remember how muddled Iron Man 2 was? You had Iron Man, War Machine, Nick Fury, Black Widow, a SHIELD subplot. All of that made it hard to tell an actual story, but Marvel was using that movie to quickly get the necessary pieces into place for The Avengers.

I feel like Warner Bros. is doing the same thing with Batman vs. Superman. Instead of giving Man of Steel a proper sequel and having standalone films for a new Batman and possibly Wonder Woman, they're all going to get shoved into this movie in order to jumpstart Justice League. Maybe it'll work. Warner Bros. hasn't proven to have Marvel's luck yet though.
