'Girls' Star Adam Driver Close to Securing 'Star Wars: Episode VII' Villain Role

Are we finally about to get some Star Wars: Episode VII casting news? According to Variety, Adam Driver is in final talks to play the villain in the upcoming Star Wars sequel.

Sources tell Variety that while no deal is done yet, the “Girls” actor is close to signing on to play the villain in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: Episode VII.” Exact details are unknown, but the character is said to be in the vein of iconic “Star Wars” villain Darth Vader.

Driver's name came up in a previous round of Star Wars casting rumors, along with Michael Fassbender, Hugo Weaving and Jesse Plemons. This isn't the first time the Girls star was mentioned for a role in a potential blockbuster, previously being rumored to be the favorite to play Nightwing in Warner Bros.'s Batman vs. Superman movie.

No word yet on who the Episode VII villain will be. Variety's note that he'll "be in the vein of iconic Star Wars villain Darth Vader" makes me think we could be seeing a new Sith threat in Star Wars: Episode VII, but that idea could also be hinting at a military figure too.

Star Wars: Episode VII hits theaters on Dec. 18, 2015. Hopefully we'll start getting some major news from the film soon.
