'The Social Network' Sequel?: David Fincher in Talks to Direct Steve Jobs Movie
If Sony has its way, the studio's Steve Jobs film is going to be a spiritual sequel to The Social Network. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony is in early talks with David Fincher to bring the director on to helm its adaption of Walter Isaacson's Jobs biography. Sony already has Aaron Sorkin writing the screenplay for the untitled adaption, and The Social Network producer Scott Rudin is also on the project.
Way back in May 2012, I started hypothesizing who Sony would cast to play Jobs. Knowing that Sorkin and Rudin were already on board, I had the following to say about the project:
Providing Sony and Fincher can reach a deal for him to direct the Steve Jobs adaption, Sony is going to have that sequel-in-spirit.
Oh, and by the way, my pick to play Jobs? Justin Timberlake. With a creative team of Fincher, Sorkin and Rudin, there's a group already in place that knows what Timberlake could do with material like The Social Network.

Like The Social Network, it's going to be a Sony Pictures film. Like The Social Network, Rudin will be producing. And, like The Social Network, Sorkin has signed on to write the screenplay. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if David Fincher was named the director ... just like The Social Network. Sony seems intent on replicating the success of The Social Network with Steve Jobs, and it makes perfect sense. Like Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs was the biggest innovator of his generation and happened to make a few enemies along the way. Sony would be stupid to not see Steve Jobs as a sequel-in-spirit to The Social Network.
