FIRST LOOK: Jack Black as RL Stine in the 'Goosebumps' Movie

If you're like me, you spent a large chunk of your childhood reading the Goosebumps books. Probably too much. There may have even been a point where your parents told you that you couldn't keep buying every new installment, which was really a shame because what else were you supposed to read while you wore your 1990ishly large A Shocker on Shock Street T-shirt?

Providing any of those things applied to your childhood, you're probably excited about the upcoming Goosebumps movie. Unlike previous live-action projects based on RL Stine's novels, this movie focus on Stine himself. Well, a fictionalized version, at least. Jack Black plays a version of Stine on the run from his monsters and creatures, who have come alive.

Entertainment Weekly released the first image from Goosebumps on Thursday and chatted with Black about the movie.

Black described playing Stine, saying, "this is obviously a fictionalized version of his life and nothing that happens in this movie actually happened to him, other than him writing all the books." So Stine never had to face real-life versions of murderous talking dummies?

In not surprising news, Black had also never read the Goosebumps books prior to signing on for this movie. "I'm an old man, I'm 44. So by the time the books rolled around, I was in college and doing shows, theater around the country and stuff," Black told EW. "I was more into Nirvana and [laughs] more mature things. But after I read the script and signed on to do the movie, I read some of the books and they’re great."

Goosebumps is scheduled to open on Aug. 7, 2015. In addition to Black, the movie stars Dylan Minnette, Odeya Rush, Amy Ryan, Jillian Bell and the real Stine himself in a secret cameo.
