'Esquire' Names Penelope Cruz 'Sexiest Woman Alive'

Penelope Cruz won an Oscar in 2008, but that can't compare to the prize she won this week: Esquire's honor of Sexiest Woman Alive.

Cruz follows in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie, Jessica Biel, Scarlett Johansson (twice), Charlize Theron, Halle Berry, Kate Beckinsale, Minka Kelly, Rihanna and Mila Kunis. Esquire began naming its Sexiest Woman Alive in 2004.

Usually I'll try to say something witty about whoever Esquire gives this title to, but I really don't have much to say about Cruz. It's kind of a weird pick. There's usually some kind of pop culture push behind Esquire's Sexiest Woman Alive. Johansson won it last year in the midst of The Avengers, Her and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Kunis won it the year she was everywhere, including Ted and Friends With Benefits. Cruz, though, hasn't done anything close to those movies since 2011's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
