'Harry Potter' Spinoff 'Fantastic Beasts' Trilogy to Be Released in 2016, 2018 and 2020
Warner Bros. is ready to make Harry Potter (or, at least the wizards who came before him) a thing again. The studio announced release dates on Wednesday for the upcoming trilogy based on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, slotting the three movies for 2016, 2018 and 2020.
The trilogy will be based on JK Rowling's one-off book, "set in an extension of her familiar wizarding world, featuring magical creatures and characters inspired by Harry Potter's Hogwarts textbook and its fictitious author, Newt Scamander." Rowling will write the screenplays for Warner Bros. David Yates, who directed the final four Harry Potter movies, will helm the trilogy.
We've previously reported that the first Fantastic Beasts movie will open on Nov. 18, 2016. Nothing Warner Bros. announced today contradicts that date, so it's safe to assume that hasn't changed.
