Forest Whitaker in Talks to Join STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE

Forest Whitaker is in talks to join Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One, Variety reported on Monday.

Rogue One is the first Star Wars standalone movie. The film will be set between Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith and the original Star Wars movie and the story of a band of rebels who set out to steal the plans to the first Death Star. Godzilla director Gareth Edwards is helming Rogue One, with Felicity JonesRiz Ahmed, Diego Luna and Ben Mendelsohn already on board for the cast.

Adding an Oscar winner like Whitaker to Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One further enforces the commitment Disney has made to Star Wars. Lucasfilm isn't just churning out Star Wars movies with whatever random actors in can find. Yes, Lucasfilm has ever intention now of churning out Star Wars movies, but it's doing so with high-caliber actors and directors.

Whitaker won his Oscar in 2007 for his performance in The Last King of Scotland. The actor also earned praise for his work in 2013's The Butler.
