PITCH PERFECT 3 Hitting Theaters in July 2017

When the second movie in a franchise outgrosses its predecessor in a single weekend, a studio giving another sequel the greenlight isn't a shocker. Universal Studios announced on Monday that Pitch Perfect 3 will hit theaters on July 21, 2017.

Pitch Perfect 2 opened to $69.2 million its first weekend. That trumped the $65 million the first Pitch Perfect made its entire theatrical run. An opening weekend like that guaranteed that Universal would move forward with another sequel.

No official word yet on which castmembers will be back for Pitch Perfect 3 or who will direct the movie. Universal's announcement tweet included pictures of Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson. Kendrick also tweeted a picture of herself celebrating the sequel.

Pitch Perfect 2 also set up Hailee Steinfeld as the leader of the Bellas' next generation.

It's also likely that Elizabeth Banks will return to direct. In addition to directing Pitch Perfect 2, Banks served as a producer on both movies.
