Sony and Marvel Closing In on a SPIDER-MAN Reboot Director

With the Spider-Man reboot is circling a lead actor, it makes sense that we're getting reports that Sony and Marvel Studios are also honing in on a director to helm the film. Deadline reported on Tuesday that the studios are down to two frontrunners: St. Vincent director Ted Melfi and Warm Bodies director Jonathan Levine.

Both Melfi and Levine were among the names listed in a report from early May. In addition to the two frontrunners, Deadline reports that Sony and Marvel are still looking at John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein, the directors behind the upcoming Vacation sequel, and Jon Watts, the director of Cop Car, a movie starring Kevin Bacon.

Whoever lands this job might get it with a Spider-Man actor already in place. From what we're hearing, Sony and Marvel could already have a new Peter Parker in place this week, possibly choosing from Asa Butterfield, Tom HollandJudah Lewis, Matthew Lintz, Charlie Plummer and Charlie Rowe. Joe and Anthony Russo will have the honor of directing the whoever wins that role first in Captain America: Civil War.
