Brie Larson and Russell Crowe in Talks to Join KONG: SKULL ISLAND

Brie Larson and Russell Crowe are in talks to join Kong: Skull Island — which isn't a bad thing after the movie lost Michael Keaton and JK Simmons last month. Deadline reported that Larson had pretty much clinched the female lead in Legendary Pictures' King Kong prequel, while TheWrap reported that Crowe was in talks but waiting to read the most recent script for the movie.

Providing they both sign on, Larson and Crowe would join Tom Hiddleston and director Jordan Vogt-Roberts. Kong: Skull Island lost Keaton and Simmons after production delays caused scheduling conflicts for the two actors.

While Crowe has been a Hollywood icon for decades, Larson has seen her star rise over the past few years thanks to roles in movies like 21 Jump Street. The actress' recent turn in Amy Schumer's Trainwreck put Larson on most casting wishlists. While she hasn't done a tentpole movie yet, Larson was one of the finalists for the role of Sarah Connor in Terminator: Genisys. That part went to Emilia Clarke.

Kong: Skull Island hits theaters on March 10, 2017.
