Bryan Singer Confirms That an X-MEN and FANTASTIC FOUR Crossover Is in the Works

Rumors of an X-Men/Fantastic Four crossover have been swirling ever since Fox rebooted its Fantastic Four in the post-Marvel Cinematic Universe world. Now that Sony is working with Marvel Studios to bring Spider-Man into the MCU, Fox is the only studio left with active Marvel licenses to make movies from — pulling the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the same cinematic universe was a no-brainer.

In a talk with Yahoo! Movies, X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer revealed that he's been working with the team behind the new Fantastic Four movie to bring the two superhero teams into the same movie.

"Those ideas are in play," Singer told Yahoo! Movies. "That would be a natural match-up because they're both ensemble films and there is a natural mechanism by which to do it."

There's definitely something afoot over at Fox to bring these the X-Men and Fantastic Four together. In addition to Singer's comments, several official Twitter account for Fox's Marvel properties tweeted a picture featuring the casts of X-Men: Apocalypse, Fantastic Four, Deadpool, Gambit together with Hugh Jackman. The caption on that photo? "A universe united."

How would an X-Men/Fantastic Four crossover work? There's been no sign in Singer's X-Men movies or what we've seen from Fantastic Four that either team knows the other exists. You'd think that the existence of mutants or a foursome of superpowered kids would something that would come up in conversation.

"It deals with time," Singer told Yahoo! Movies about his plans for a crossover. "That's all I'm going to say."

After X-Men: Days of Future Past, the X-Men franchise is no stranger to time travel. Maybe the dimensional travel in Fantastic Four plays into Singer and Fox's plans somehow too.
