Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell Take on the Great Recession in THE BIG SHORT Trailer
The last time Brad Pitt and author Michael Lewis collaborated, we got Moneyball, a film that garnered a ton of Oscar attention. Can the duo do it again with The Big Short? Pitt is producing and starring in the adaption of Lewis' book about what led to the collapse of the housing bubble and the beginning of the Great Recession.
The first trailer for The Big Short debuted on Tuesday, giving us a look at the film's stellar cast. In addition to Pitt, The Big Short has Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell in lead roles. Anchorman director Adam McKay finds himself at the helm of a movie that one wouldn't think is a comedy.
I love any trailer that uses Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks." The shot of a Jenga tower getting knocked over? A bit heavy-handed. It's going to be interesting see the four main actors together on this film. I worry that Gosling and Carell seem to be in their own movies separate from what Pitt and Bale are doing. Carell accent appears to be a weird mix of Michael Scott and his Foxcatcher character.
The Big Short is set to hit theaters on Dec. 11. In addition to Pitt, Bale, Gosling and Carell, the film stars Melissa Leo, Marisa Tomei, Max Greenfield, Karen Gillan and Selena Gomez.
