Holy Mixed Tone, Batman! It's the BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE Trailer!

You know what's one of the most awesome parts of Star Wars: The Force Awakens? How little we've seen the movie. No Luke Skywalker. No Supreme Leader Snoke. Very little Maz Kanata. JJ Abrams' mystery box concept gets mocked all the time, but because of it, we're all going to go into the movie in a few weeks without actually already seeing the entire thing in trailers and TV spots.

Warner Bros. took the opposite approach with the new trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The trailer was released earlier this week — and it gives away EVERYTHING. Here are the conflicts. Here are all the characters. Here's the other villain that we haven't shown you yet. See you in March, folks.

There's just something off about this trailer. The tone is weird. It looks like another gritty Zack Snyder movie, but then we have Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor camping it up. And maybe I was imagining it, but did they really need to put a record-scratch sound effect right after Batman quips "I thought she was with you"?

Back to that "let's show them everything" concept. Why did WB need to include a half-baked Doomsday in this trailer? An unconvinced moviegoer isn't going to see him, a character not even named in the trailer, and decide that's the piece that'll make them see the movie. And if you already know who Doomsday is, you were probably already on board with Batman v Superman. Now WB has invited months of jokes about Doomsday being some mashup of a Michael Bay Ninja Turtle and the version of Abomination we saw in The Incredible Hulk.

WB has a ton riding on the success of Batman v Superman, most importantly the future of its DC Extended Universe. If this movie flops, there's going to be trouble.
