OSCARINDEX: 'Lincoln' Is Still No. 1, but 'Zero Dark Thirty' Moves Up to No. 3

Popculturology's OscarIndex is a nifty chart of the top ten films that you should be paying attention to in order to be ready for the the Oscars. Each film on the list is assigned an OscarIndex number, with the No. 1 film getting a score of 100. The following nine films then get OscarIndex numbers based on how much buzz they have going into the Academy Awards compared to the No. 1 film.

A lot of changes in this week's edition of the OscarIndex. Seven spots changed hands, with Beasts of the Southern Wild dropping off the OscarIndex after a run that stretched back to when this chart began. In its place, Django Unchained hopped back onto the OscarIndex, ending its one-week absence. After debuting last week tied for No. 9, Amour slid up one spot, aided by being named Best Picture by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and Emmanuelle Riva being named Best Actress by the LAFCA and the Boston Society of Film Critics.

The biggest story, though, continues to be Zero Dark Thirty. One month ago, Kathryn Bigelow's film sat at No. 7 with an OscarIndex score of 27. The film has jumped four spots and 36 points since then and continues to be the film with the most momentum right now. While Amour took the top spot with the LAFCA, Zero Dark Thirty and Bigelow have dominated pretty much every other award. Lincoln continues to strengthen its hold on No. 1 right now only due to the fact that the film has more actors up for top awards and is solidifying support in many of the technical categories. When it comes to Best Picture, though, Zero Dark Thirty has everything going for it at the moment.
