With 'Happy Endings' Canceled, Damon Wayans Jr. Is Close to Returning for 'New Girl' Story Arc
While Happy Endings fans mourn the loss of their beloved sitcom, there may be some good news on the horizon — Damon Wayans Jr. is close to reprising his role of Coach on New Girl. TVLine is reporting that the actor is close to returning for a "significant Season 3 arc," with New Girl star Jake Johnson recently hinting that Wayans' return was a possibility. The two actors are currently shooting Let's Be Cops together in Atlanta.
Wayans was an original member of the New Girl loft, but after Happy Endings got a surprise Season 2 pickup, the actor was contractually obligated to leave the loft and return to Rosalita's. The Coach character was written out of the show and replaced with Lamorne Morris' Winston.
No word yet on what Coach's story will be or when those episodes will air, but I'm guessing we'll hear more once Wayans officially closes the deal. New Girl's third season is set to kick off on Sept. 17 on Fox.
