'Beetlejuice' Sequel in the Works: Tim Burton in Talks to Direct, Michael Keaton's Involvement 'Up in the Air'

Someone must've said his name three times, since Beetlejuice is making a return to the big screen. On Monday, The Hollywood Reporter reported that a sequel to the 1988 movie was in the works, with Warner Bros. making an offer to Tim Burton to return as director. According to the report, scripts have been in the works, with Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Dark Shadows scribe Seth Grahame-Smith writing the screenplay.

Um, when did Grahame-Smith become the go-to screenwriter for these projects? Yes, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter were novel ideas, but the movie adaption of the latter and Dark Shadows were two of the worst movies of 2012. At what point do you write yourself out of future jobs? I'd say Burton should be worried, but he's made a mess out of his career lately all by himself.

THR notes that Michael Keaton, Beetlejuice himself, hasn't signed on yet, with his involvement "up in the air at this stage." Can you have a Beetlejuice movie without Keaton?
