Will 'Attack the Block' Director Joe Cornish Replace JJ Abrams for 'Star Trek 3'?
Even though I'm sure JJ Abrams would love to return to direct the next Star Trek movie, he's kind of got his hands full with Star Wars: Episode VII. Abrams will stay on as a producer for Star Trek 3, but Paramount and Skydance have begun looking for Abrams' successor, with Deadline reporting that Attack the Block director Joe Cornish is the man they want.
Back in August, it was rumored that G.I. Joe: Retaliation director John M. Chu was the favorite to replace Abrams, but that appears to have gone nowhere. Cornish's name also came up back then, grouped along with Justin Lin and Brad Bird.
While it took four years to get Star Trek Into Darkness into theaters after Star Trek opened in 2009, there's little chance that the studios involved wait that long again, even if it means moving on without Abrams.
