A Sequel to 'The Lego Movie' Is Already in the Works
The Lego Movie doesn't open until this Friday, but Warner Bros. is already getting to work on a sequel. On Monday, TheWrap reported that the studio has assigned Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan to begin writing the screenplay for the next installment.
With The Lego Movie getting rave reviews (it's currently perfect on Rotten Tomatoes) and with TheWrap noting that box office experts predict that it'll gross around $40 million its opening weekend, it's no surprise that Warner Bros. would want to get to work on a sequel as soon as possible. With the exception of Pixar, that's just how movie studios work these days.
Sterm's previous writing credits include The Internship and Mr. Popper's Penguins, which might be cause for alarm. In addition to directing, Chris Miller and Phil Lord also wrote The Lego Movie. Hopefully they'll have some involvement in building the second movie.
