Pixar Reveals First Pic and Plot Details for FINDING DORY

She just kept swimming and 13 years later, Dory is getting her very own movie. With Finding Dory set to hit theaters in 2016, Pixar shared a few details about the Finding Nemo sequel during the D23 Convention this past weekend.

Finding Dory will be set six months after Finding Nemo, with Dory setting out to find the family she had forgotten. Of course Nemo and his father, Marlin, will be along for the journey. Ellen DeGeneres and Albert Brooks are returning to voice Dory and Marlin. They'll be joined by new castmembers Ed O'Neill (voicing an octopus named Hank, seen above), Ty Burrell (voicing a beluga whale named Bailey) and Kailtin Olson (voicing a whale shark named Destiny).

Finding Nemo director Andrew Stanton is back to helm this sequel, with Angus MacLane as his co-director.

In some animation fans' eyes, Finding Nemo is Pixar's finest work. That legacy will be put to the test with Finding Dory. With Stanton back at the helm, I have high hopes for this movie. When they do them right, Pixar knows how to makes sequels (see Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3), but the studio has missed the mark on occasion (see Cars 2 and Monsters University).

Finding Dory opens on June 17, 2016.
