Matt Damon Has a Big Space Gun in 'Elysium'

Prior to this week, very little was known about Elysium, director Neill Blomkamp's follow-up to the awesome District 9. Thanks to a leaked preview pass and an Entertainment Weekly interview, we now have an idea about what this film holds in store for us.

Still, [Blomkamp] confirms to EW that the film centers on an enormous space station that houses the world's wealthy elite (while everyone else languishes on a less-than-hospitable Earth). Matt Damon plays the man who threatens the inequitable status quo, while Jodie Foster is the government honcho out to maintain these castes at all costs.

In addition to Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, Elysium also reunites Blomkamp with Sharlto Copley, his District 9 star. We still have to wait until March 1, 2013, to see the film, but Entertainment Weekly offered our first look at Elysium in the magazine's latest issue: Damon with a high-tech gun and robotic arm. The visual style here definitely echoes the look and feel Blomkamp's District 9.
