BOX OFFICE REPORT (OCT. 10-12): 'Gone Girl' Holds Off Threat of 'Dracula Untold'

1. Gone Girl (1st)
Weekend gross: $26.8 million / Total domestic gross: $78.3 million /
Percent drop: 28.6
Gone Girl held on to the top spot at the box office for a second weekend, holding off a trio of newcomers. For director David Fincher, Gone Girl is a huge career achievement. The movie will likely become Fincher's all-time highest grossing movie at the domestic box office. That title is currently held by The Curious Case of Benjamin Button at $127.5 million.

2. Dracula Untold (N)
Weekend gross: $23.5 million / Total domestic gross: $23.5 million /
Percent drop: NA
For Universal Pictures, Dracula Untold is the key to its monsters cinematic universe. While the bulk of the monster cinematic universe will take place in modern day, Dracula Untold kicked the entire potential megafranchise off. A $23.5 million opener isn't fantastic, but it should be enough to keep those plans moving along.

3. Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (N)
Weekend gross: $19.1 million / Total domestic gross: $19.1 million /
Percent drop: NA
Was anyone interested in seeing this movie? It would've been much better if Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day was the sequel to Oliver Stone and Colin Farrell's Alexander.

4. Annabelle (2nd)
Weekend gross: $16.4 million / Total domestic gross: $62.2 million /
Percent drop: 55.9
Through two weekends, Annabelle trails The Conjuring, its predecessor at the box office, by over $20 million. A 55.9 percent fall between weekends is quite the tumble. Maybe it would have been better to release Annabelle in a few weeks when Halloween rolls around.

5. The Judge (N)
Weekend gross: $13.3 million / Total domestic gross: $13.3 million /
Percent drop: NA
Prior to The Judge, Robert Downey Jr.'s previous two movies had opened to $174.1 million and $207.4 million. The Judge isn't Iron Man 3 or The Avengers.

Next week's predictions
1. Gone Girl
2. Dracula Untold
3. Fury
4. The Book of Life
5. Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
