'Doctor Strange' Will Join 'Ant-Man' in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Things are going to get strange in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Doctor Strange. While chatting with MTV News, Marvel's Kevin Feige revealed that the Sorcerer Supreme would finally make his big-screen debut in the studio's batch of movies following The Avengers 2.

"'Doctor Strange,' which I've been talking about for years, is definitely one of them," he confirmed. "He's a great, original character, and he checks the box off this criteria that I have: he's totally different from anything else we have, just like 'Guardians of the Galaxy.' He's totally different from anything we've done before, as is 'Ant-Man,' which keeps us excited."

It's been my theory for awhile now that after focusing on sequels in Phase 2, Marvel would turn its attention to introducing new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase 1 was made up of five original franchises and just one sequel. Phase 2, however, will be made up of five sequels and just one original franchise. Back in October, we learned that Phase 3 would launch with Ant-Man on Nov. 6, 2015. Between Edgar Wright's take on Ant-Man and Doctor Strange, Marvel is ready to branch out from the characters that have already been box office hits.

Kind of funny that Warner Bros./DC is still trying to figure out how to get Justice League going while Marvel is already planning Phase 3 of its film properties.
