Steven Spielberg's Adaption of Roald Dahl's 'The BFG' Will Hit Theaters in July 2016

Steven Spielberg hasn't directed a film since 2012's Lincoln, but that hasn't stopped the director from attaching himself to a ton of projects. After flirting with Robopocalypse and Montezuma, Spielberg has finally settled on his next projects. The Hollywood Reporter wrote on Monday that Spielberg will direct an untitled Cold War thriller starring Tom Hanks and an adaption of Roald Dahl's The BFG for DreamWorks.

The Cold War thriller will star Hanks as "James Donovan, an attorney who finds himself thrust into the center of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on the near impossible mission to negotiate the release of a captured American U2 pilot." The movie will be based on a true story.

If you didn't read Dahl's The BFG at some point during your school years, that'd be a shocker. The author's 1982 book is a classic in the world of children's literature. Here's hoping Spielberg can get his Lincoln Oscar-winner Daniel Day-Lewis to play the Big Friendly Giant.

Spielberg's untitled Cold War thriller will open on Oct. 16, 2015. His The BFG adaption will open on July 1, 2016.
