Colin Trevorrow Won't Direct JURASSIC WORLD Sequel

Colin Trevorrow won't be making a return trip to Jurassic World. The director told BadTaste.it (via SuperHeroHype) that he won't direct the inevitable sequel.

"Jurassic Park is like Star Wars. Different directors can give a different taste to each movie," Trevorrow said. "I would be involved in some way, but not as director."

The trailers for Jurassic World have been great and early tracking has the movie on pace for a $100 million opening weekend, so Trevorrow appears to have a hit on his hands. This is even more impressive when you remember that Jurassic World is only the director's second movie, as he was hired by Steven Spielberg on the strength of Safety Not Guaranteed.

A sequel to Jurassic World hasn't been announced yet, but providing something doesn't go horribly wrong critically or at the box office when the movie opens, a sequel will definitely happen. For the four Jurassic Park films, The Lost World: Jurassic Park is the only one that had a returning director at the helm. Spielberg directed the first two installments in the franchise before passing the torch to Joe Johnston for Jurassic World III.

Funny that Trevorrow should mention Star Wars. All the pieces are in place to set him up to be a candidate for a future Star Wars movie: A relationship with Spielberg (a longtime Lucasfilm participant), working for producer Frank Marshall (whose wife, Kathleen Kennedy, is head of Lucasfilm) and knack for jumping from a small-budget film to a blockbuster tentpole (just like Gareth Edwards from Monsters to Godzilla).
